A gov. license isn't what makes a person "married". The word "marriage" is a Bible word and it makes sense that Bible definition should be used.

If people don't like the Bible definition, use a different word. Sure, it probably still wouldn't stop the idiots that want to legislate morality, but at least they wouldn't have a logical argument.

If the gov. wants to start charging homosexuals a fee and issuing them a piece of paper, I say let them join in the "fun".

First off, I'd like to say that I am a Christian. I read the Bible and believe it.

I love the points you make here (save for the ones about the Bible) and I really truly don't understand why people can't just let other people be happy. Speaking from the point of view of a Christian, I'd say that yes the Bible says that homosexuality is a sin. In the same verse, though, it also says that lying is a sin. Often people just leave that bit out, because if you included it, then you'd have to make sure that liars never get married - which would be ridiculous, because everyone lies at one time in their life.
I know that GOD says that marriage should be between a man and a woman, and I should go against him, but it really isn't my place to tell someone that or to deny them marriage because of it.

I say, let gays get married. The world will be happier because of it. If you say, 'Won't that just bring more sin into the world?' the answer is no. Jesus already died for the sins of this world. Past, present and future. The map of all time has already been written, and all sins have already been committed.

If someone sins, that's not my problem. Let it be between them and GOD. If a gay doesn't get married because of religious reasons, that's fine. At least give him the chance.

Not true. Take a look at this very incomplete list of indie writers who have sold, not one thousand books, but over fifty thousand.

Many, many writers are making useful amounts of money from self-publishing. I think your comments are out of date - no doubt they were true three or more years ago, before the advent of ereaders and digital books.

I'm really appalled to have read this. Since i signed the contract from xlibris, i constaantly edited my manuscript, helped by my friend/corrector/teacher. I don't know now if i made a great discision by paying so quickly, and the way they reacted was so unproffessional upon receiving the full amount. They just asked me a few question on how did i get the idea of the book and things on how long will it take before they receive it. I asked a few questions on how efficient the copyediting would be but the only answer i got sounded like BLUHBLUH. she went on telling me the same thing, it's almost like I was talking to an android. So I told myself it couldn't be that bad since some of their books had great covers, I imagined mine so. Yesterday, I had decided to send it out because of the World Book and Copyright Day, and the way it would symbolize my first books publishing.
Well I guess, I should become very exigent of them and if they ever disappoint me, I'll call off, the contract and demand a refund; before it turns out to be too late.

I am consistantly horrified by people on television, who are paid to talk habitually butcher the English language. Perhaps, because I am a writer and therefore possibly more aware of the language than some others or maybe because my mother was an English major and continually corrected me if my grammar was found wanting. It's cringe worthy enough to hear an interviewee who can't string a sentence together without inserting at least one (and often more than one) "like" in it, but when news anchors or political figures (yes, even the President has been guilty of this particular infraction), or journalists (!) put the article 'a' in front of a word beginning with a vowel, I find myself yelling at the TV screen and wonder why these people are actually paid to talk. Or why script writers are collecting paychecks when they obviously have no idea what the difference is between an objective and subjective pronoun! Is it just me or are there others out there just as appalled?

I can speak to the question of Canadian dictionaries! I'm an American lexicographer, but I've had occasion to read Canadian dictionaries.

The Canadian Oxford Dictionary edited by Barber is a mainstream dictionary that you can check to see whether a word is spelled the American way or the British way. This dictionary has been updated in 2002 and 2005, and it will have current terms.

The Dictionary of Canadianisms on Historical Principles (1967) edited by Avis contains Canadianisms that are historical, specialized, or obsolete. Depending on what word you're looking up (or what Canadian book you're reading), this book might contain words that aren't listed in Barber's more mainstream dictionary.
